Gemynii is a multidisciplinary artist based in Durham. For over a decade her journey in the artwork has mainly consisted of acrylic based paintings of bodies through the lenses of larger bodied Black queer femme. Her recent exploration of A.I. offers a unique exploration of African diasporic experience, through the duality of embracing technology and fluidity within the Black imagination. These works human and AI generated details, which builds an abstract yet real depiction of Black aquatic Africans known as the Octofolk. Gemynii's practice is based in Durham but draws from works of African diasporic artists to confront issues of ancestry and personhood in the digital age. In the end, his creations celebrate the fluidity of Black identities while serving as an archival reminder of the histories, stories, and memories of diasporic African peoples:
