It was once said to me by a mentor that a hat should look as if the wind gently swept the elements together and lightly perched them onto the wearer's head, in short delicate and gravity defying. It is always that wisdom in the back of my mind informing my designs.

Glimmer is exactly that, a feat of strength and balance from the spiraling wire frame to the curling tendrils of golden vine, and the airy softness of the sheer silk florals, it looks effortless and belies the careful engineering needed to create such an illusion. Headwear and people are not dissimilar in this respect. We all attempt to convey an ease to our existence but underneath the surface lies the strong inner workings keeping us upright and moving forward. I always enjoy a beautiful illusion, but I find just as much appreciation for the framework it is built upon.

Katie, a veteran of Theatrical Costume Design and Technology, began her transition from theatrical to fashion millinery while creating bespoke pieces for private clients. She officially began her label, Lifted Millinery, in 2015 and brings her love of color and drama to the design table. In addition to her degree in Costume Design and Technology, Katie avidly pursues fashion history as a hobby and lovingly collects vintage and antique clothing, accessories, and materials; all of which influence her design choices.

Lifted Millinery pieces are handcrafted with traditional and contemporary millinery techniques, gathered over a lifetime of study in garment and accessory construction, in Katie's studio in Garner, North Carolina. Limited edition, seasonal collections are released each year: Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. Bespoke orders are always welcome, and great care is taken to realize the client's vision for the finished piece.

Lifted Millinery has traveled the globe from Ireland, to Italy, to the Philippines and has been seen at various high-profile events including The Kentucky Derby, Ireland's Rose of Tralee Festival, and The Today Show coverage of The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and on display in The MET Museum Store Mezzanine Gallery.
