16" x 16" - Mixed aqua media with collage

“Appalachian Chlorophyll” is a mixed aquamedia and collage exploration of Southern wildness—lush, unruly, and a little bit feral. Inspired by the creeping flora of the Appalachian South, the piece evokes a landscape where nature oversteps its bounds, vines whisper secrets, and chlorophyll becomes a mood. Built from layered acrylic paint, marker, pastels, and torn paper, the textures mimic the tangled growth of kudzu and moss, while hints of purple and black suggest something lurking beneath the foliage. This work celebrates Southern strangeness: botanical, bold, and unapologetically weird.

Kirsten Weeks is a mixed media artist based in Durham, North Carolina, where she channels her global perspective into layered, expressive works that celebrate complexity, contradiction, and curiosity. A former foreign aid strategist turned full-time creator, Kirsten’s practice blends acrylics, collage, pastels, and found materials into vibrant compositions that explore both personal and collective transformation. After getting DOGEd (yes, that kind), she’s leaning into the unknown—embracing opportunity, absurdity, and the radical joy of making. Her work often reflects themes of resilience, reinvention, and the strange beauty of Southern landscapes.
